Tina Silva's Blog - a personal blog by Tina Silva

Well, there is no surprise that I’m absolutely in love with photography. I’ve been in love with it for as long as I can remember. One of my lifetime goals is to establish a reputable business for myself and do photography full time.

Lately, I’ve been getting more and more requests from old friends and acquaintances asking me if I could take photos of their family and how much it would cost. I haven’t yet decided on price wise, time commitment, and what will be included in the deal, but that’s something I’ll be figuring out sometime this week.

There’s also a few others things I’m trying to get done as soon as possible. Some of them I’ll do this week, and some will have to wait until I get some more cash. One thing is getting my business cards printed out. I designed them awhile back but have yet to print them. Here is what it looks like (and yes, my number is blurred out for privacy reasons).

Some of the other things I was talking about when I mentioned that I need more cash in order to get include a new camera backpack, a few new lenses, some more filters, memory cards, and of course a flash unit. For the backpack, I’m debating between two different ones.

One is the Lowepro CompuTrekker AW and the other is the Lowepro SlingShot 200 AW DSLR Backpack. Both are really great camera backpacks and have their own pros and cons. But I think I’m leaning more so towards the Lowepro CompuTrekker AW (image on left side below) for the main reason that it has a slot where you can store your laptop which I think is essential! Plus, you can fit a whole lot of stuff in there too. Here are both photos of the backpacks below.

So that’s where I’m at now at this point of my photography ventures. I’ll keep you all posted on my progress and what other camera accessories I’ll be getting soon. I think I may make it a regular thing for posting about my photography on this blog. Stay tuned for more!

Cool! Yesterday I received an email requesting that two of my chocolate chip cookie photos be used in an article that was about National Chocolate Chip Day which was May 15th.

Of course I agreed and they were both put into the article amongst other great photos as well. Here is a preview of the page below and you can see the article here. You can also click the image to view it bigger.

Anyone who owns a website knows that you’ll be switching hosts once or twice during the lifetime of your site. Heck, I am just in the process myself!

Websites such as WebHostingRating.com provide those interested in affordable and quality hosting the ability to see ranked sites. They rank from 1-10 and share information such as features, price, and which ones have dedicated server hosting.

Not only that, but they also have a very informative article section in which they provide you with information regarding cheap web hosting, domain names, and much more!

Having all this information in one place is absolutely fantastic in my opinion. It makes browsing around the web for web hosting companies so much easier since it’s all provided for you in a nice table and in easy-to-read posts.

Check it out yourself. It’s definitely a website you’ll want to bookmark and keep handy if you are planning on switching web hosts or are looking for one to start off with.

May 16, 2008 Got myself an iPod!

I made the plunge and decided to get myself an iPod. I was going to get an iPod Nano but decided not to at this time. So I went with the iPod Shuffle because of some features it has.ipod-shuffle-silver

  • 2GB
  • up to 480 songs
  • small and light
  • clip onto clothes
  • easy to use
  • built in battery
  • 12 hours of battery life

One of the main reasons I decided to go with the iPod Shuffle was because of the clipon and how easy it is to just clip onto your shirt, pocket, jacket, etc. I love the simplicity of it since I’m hoping to join a gym soon and can easily clip it onto my shirt and listen to music while I work out.

Of course me being the most awesomeness sister, I ended up getting my sister one too. She wanted the turquoise one, while I got the silver. It was on sale at FutureShop.ca for only $59.99 which is really great! So now I just have to go pick it up sometime today since I selected to have it picked up instead of shipped to me. Saved me $10 there especially since I have a Future Shop location near my house. LOL!

I can’t believe people actually post things like this on the web. Viewer discretion is advised for the video below and the rest of the videos on this woman’s page.

Seriously…I am at a loss for words and you definitely don’t want to hear what she has to say about bloody pussy. Disgusting!!

I have never dealt with a web hosting company that didn’t reply to support tickets or emails in 24 hours. But one…well…it seems they could give a rats ass about their clients. Most probably guessed it, the current web hosting company I’m with Pixelled-Solutions.com.

What a piece of shit this company has turned into after a switch of owners. No matter how many support tickets, emails, etc…I have yet to receive a reply which could be handled in a mere five minutes of their time.

What do I want or need? Well, my domain name (www.pimentels-photography.com) was registered by them when I first signed up for their service. I now know how to manage my own domains and want that one transferred from their GoDaddy account to my own.

But nooooooooo…..I don’t get any replies or ANYTHING!! WTF!! I paid for the damn domain, I sure as hell want to control it myself!!

UPDATE: I finally got the domain transferred to my own account. YIPPY!!

hp-photosmart-a826It was nice having our family altogether again for a celebration (ie: Mother’s Day). We really surprised my mother this year considering we not once asked her what she wanted. We just knew.

Some things we got her included a huge mother’s day card, jacket, flower stems (she needed to change some faux flowers in some pots she has), large & deep frying pan + a few other pots (everything stainless steel and bloody expensive!!), and last but not least my favourite…an HP Photosmart A826 Compact Photo Printer.

The photo printer we got was one I personally had my eye on getting but knew my mother would be ecstatic once she learned how to use it. She is constantly bugging me to order photos of my nephew from the Walmart photo center in our local store. Of course, I always forget to do so which was good anyways. Why? Well, once I showed my mother how to print out photos from this printer, and photos of my nephew came out with unbelievable quality, my mother cried. Yes…I said that right – she cried.

She cherishes photographs deeply which is one of the reasons I knew it would be a great gift for her. Plus, I got it CHEAP too!! It was $250 before…then went down to $199. I saw it online for only $159 at FutureShop.ca. Then of course I check out BestBuy.ca and they had it for $149. So I just went to FutureShop because they match the price and then give you a 10% off from the difference. SWEET!! So it was definitely a great bargain in the end! LOL!
