February 28th, 2008Spending way too much!!
![]() |
Somebody, please help me out. I am spending way too much money and I just can’t seem to get a grip. I know one of my resolutions was to try to cut my spending both online and off, but I just haven’t managed that yet.
I just paid a $500 credit card bill today. Then I come home after of course going shopping and spending $200 at the mall…I go online and check my credit card balance prior to the $200.
Guess what…it is over $500 ALREADY!!! That’s not including the $200 I just spent, or some other things I put on the card that haven’t shown up yet. Seriously…what do you guys/gals do to control your spending?? Mine is outrageous!!! … and no… I don’t want to cut it up or get rid of it.

Leave it at home when you go shopping. (says the woman who also spends too much money! LOL)

You’ve got a problem there. I got rid of mine in December, the new ones have a chip and we have to insert the PIN to use it, so I didn’t open the PIN envelope and therefore I can’t use the VISA card.

I’ve tagged you for meme, 4×4.

I don’t have advice, because I have a very similar spending problem. I just want to wish you good luck because having this kind of a problem is terrible and stressful. Hope you figure it out!

Hi, I found your blog through payperpost on their list of bloggers. I’m considering doing that.
Anyways on the spending front. One thing I do is NOT buy books. The library is so easy to use and so much cheaper! Besides, I have no where to store them all and I wouldn’t want to just give them away. Not to mention they are so expensive and I read at least 10-12 a month, at $20 at least for one hardback, that would just blow my budget!

Hey, Tina.
The #1 best way to stop spending is to give yourself a generous allowance every week IN CASH and then not go over it. Then if there’s something you seriously want, you can save up two allowances for it or something.
PS, the “allowance” is fully understood to be money that you can WASTE as you so choose. There is no pressure to use it wisely. It’s separate from clothing but can be used for clothing if you want. You should have a different amount per month set aside for clothing.
I have a $40/week allowance, and it keeps accumulating week after week, which is nice. I also have $60/month for clothing that only accumulates a tiny bit, but it’s also nice.
Anyway, try starting yourself off at $50/week for allowance and see where it gets you. You can afford it!
