October 1st, 2007PayPerPost needs your help!
Ted Murphy, the CEO of my favourite paid blogging company to work with - PayPerPost, is asking us posties for help with a new name for their much anticipated Argus release. As requested in his post, he would like our input on what name should they launch Argus under. Here are the domain names they have narrowed down to:
- bzzooka.com
- wompow.com
- tremblor.com
- cloudshout.com
My personal opinion about choosing one of these domain names is rather sour right now. None of them stand out and say “Blogging changes forever” or “Bammmmmm, what has hit the web”. I hate to criticize these names but here is my honest input.
bzzooka.com - Reminds me too much of Zookoda or even the Bazooka bubblegum. Maybe it’s just the way the domain looks to me. I don’t quite know, but it doesn’t seem original enough.
wompow.com - Reminds me of some kung-fu movie or some sorts. Nothing original here and doesn’t quite stand out enough.
tremblor.com - This name is the best choice out of all of them but to me it best suits one of those social networking websites like StumbleUpon or Tumblr.com.
cloudshout.com - What the….?? Where does this come into play? It definitely does not scream, “hey look here!” It sounds more like a shoutout domain then anything else.
I think PayPerPost needs to reevaluate these domain name choices because none of them catch enough attention to go with what Argus seems to be about. Isn’t Argus going to change blogging forever? At least go with a name suitable enough that is catchy, easy to remember, and best of all something people will recognize and remember. You want people to talk about it positively and say something like, “Did you here about *insert name*?” or “*insert name* is the next best thing to rock the web!!”

You need a name choice that is seriously going to rock the web. If you want Argus to be successful and be used to it’s full potential, then choosing the right name is crucial. Who knows, you may even want to pick a name that will have easy to remember abbreviations like PayPerPost = PPP.
I know the entire creative team at PayPerPost can come up with better domain names than these. Just take some time to actually pick a name that is relevant to what Argus is about but also has a catchy name that is easy to remember. Good luck!!!

Totally agree with you! I think all 3 stink and if anything it’s only going to confuse advertisers and posties alike.

Thanks for the honest feedback. I will take this into consideration

I’m with you - all these are not right!

I totally agree. Sorry Ted, but I think all of the domain names suck.

Here, here! I saw those domain name suggestions and literally did this IRL -
“WTF are they smoking?!”
Seriously, I’m not going to associate any of those names with a professional company that I might like to do advertising for or use to promote my products. WomPow makes me think of “pow-wows” and considering the way some people acted very negatively about the team groups the ppp staff did at that spa I don’t think that name is the best of ideas, for sure.
